A list of new features on Snow Leopard
Obviously, due to time constraints, it was impossible to mention all the new features on the Snow Leopard during the WWDC. In any case, we bring you a list of the interesting new features that will be present on the new OS to be launched in September.
Many times during the WWDC, Bertrand Serlet has used the word “Refinements”, then listed the most important things on the new Operating System, such as the installation time, for example. But here’s a list of the most important refinements:
- Every Mac with Multi Touch trackpad will be able to use the three and four finger gestures
- The standby process will be 75% faster.
- iChat will show the contents from iChat Theater at higher resolutions, up to 640 x 480
- The Server systems (Such as the Spotlight index) will be more “intelligent” and won’t intefere with the user’s activity.
- The Terminal window can be divided in different sections
- The Airport menu shows the signal strength from the different networks, without the need to connect to them in order to get the information. That way, it’ll be possible to choose which network to connect to.
- While keeping the same quality, iChat will require one third less of the bandwidth that it required before. If before, in order to obtain a good quality, 900 Kbps in upload were needed, now with 300 Kpbs it’s possible to obtain the same performance.
- TextEdit will include the automatic correction of most common typos.
- The same technology integrated in Safari Mobile will be present on Snow Leopard through Web Spot, and it will allow the user to jump directly to the most important points on a Web site, despite its complexity. The rest of the features can be found on the dedicated website.
