Mac Pros to feature the Xeon EP chipset?
According to The Register, Intel would be ready to launch their new generation of Xeon EP processors. MacRumors claims that together with the launch, the new chips should make their way to the new Mac Pro series: the professional tower computers from Apple, which haven’t been changed in over a year.
The Xeon EP processor are known for their 2 billion transistor core, and the performance increase should be of 15-20% when compared to the processors found on the current Mac Pro. The chips, belonging to the Nehalem family, are the newest creation coming from a 45nm technology, and it seems that a new series called Westmere, with 32nm technology, is already being tested.
