The polemic of the MMS on the old iPhone
It’s almost a certainty that the MMS will be present on the next generation of iPhones. The real trouble is another one: for those who already have an iPhone, despite the firmware updates, won’t be able to use the MMS feature. The limitation would be, according to official Apple sources, that the hardware present on the current iPhone isn’t enough to support MMS.
The guys from Mac Life have decided to prove Apple wrong, using help from iFixIt, and it turns out that the chipset on the current iPhone, manufactured by Infineon (PMB8876) is also present on many Benq devices where the MMS work with no issues.
According to Apple, who was contacted by the guys from Mac Life after this discovery, “the hardware has changed enough between these two devices that not all the features will be available on the original iPhone. For instance, MMS and stereo Bluetooth will not be available on the original iPhone”.
It doesn’t make much sense to us, but that’s Apple choice, of course. We’ll be tuned.
