According to an analysis from Morgan Stanley, the next iPhone model, the iPhone 4G will be cheaper than the previous models. The analysts claim that the possibility comes from the fact that Apple has now almost completely regained the money used in development and research to create the iPhone, and that now they can afford to use a more aggressive marketing campaign.
Also, a lower cost for the iPhone would bring to more units sold, which could bring to more songs downloaded from iTunes Store or applications from the Apple store. It could also influence customers to buy other Mac products. It would be a good move for the company.

Roughly one day after publishing two new ads, today Apple has published another one, called Family Travel. Again, not much else to say, the iPhone spots are pretty self-explanatory as they are.
So enjoy!

The fourth generation of iPhones (iPhone 4G) are likely to be around in May. The rumors were brought forward by the French magazine Challenges. The magazine claims that the news came from a non-identified mobile operator. If that rumor comes true, it’d be the second time that a French phone company leaks information about Apple products.
Unfortunately the news don’t reveal anything else about the new iPhone, although it’s easy to think that the anticipated May launch, contrarily from the usual June/July launch that Apple follows since 2007, is a reply to Google’s new market strategy.
Stay tuned on our Iphone 4G news.

OmniVision Technologies will supply from 40 to 45 million 5 Megapixel sensors to Apple during 2010, probably going to equip the next generation of iPhones. The news was brought by DigiTimes, and those are CMOS (CIS) sensors. The true manufacturing will start in Taiwan on the first trimester of 2010.
If history should repeat itself, with OmniVision that receives a big order (last year, 3.2 Megapixel sensors), we should see a more powerful iPhone around June. We’ll have to wait and see.

Apple has released two new ads for the iPhone. As usual, both of them show a selection of applications available for the smartphone. The first one is called Gift, and as the name probably hints to, it shows an application dedicated to choosing gifts that are the most adapted to each contact, and other interesting applications as well.
The second one is called Song, and it shows some classic applications such as Facebook, Shazam or The Sims 3. The spots can be seen on Apple’s official TV ads page. Enjoy!

Rumors are rumors and we always treat them as such, but should this one come to pass, it should be an interesting possibility for the future. According to 9to5ac, Einar Rosenberg from Nearfield Communications has declared that Apple would be working in testing the RFID technology on the next generation of iPhones. Those were the exact words:
“A highly reliable source has informed me that Apple has built some prototypes of the next gen iPhone with an RFID reader built in and they have seen it in action. So its not full NFC but its a start for real service discovery and I’m told that the reaction was very positive that we can expect this in the next gen iPhone.”
In a nutshell, then, the RFID implementation should allow the devices to notice the distance and start pre-determined actions automatically, such as synchronization (through WiFi perhaps) or the payment authorization by putting the credit card in contact with the phone display. Of course, in order for that to work, the card must have an integrated RFID chip, but it’s becoming more and more common now, especially in the USA.
We’ll have to wait and see.

From Apple’s official support forum, many users have complained that when trying to synchronize their iPhone to the newest Windows 7, they get the error message 0xE8000065. The problem seems to be between Windows 7 and the Intel P55 chipset that works as an USB controller: the iPhone is recognized, but when the user tries a synchronization with the computer, it shows the error.
The problem seems to exist for both 32 and 64-bit versions, and there’s no real solution for that right now. A Microsoft spokesperson has announced that “Microsoft has not seen this particular question posed in the Microsoft Answers for Windows 7 community forum, nor in any of our call centers. We reviewed the issue raised on the Apple Discussion Board and are currently investigating. If we determine this to be a problem specific to Windows 7, we will post an update on the Microsoft Answers site.”

With the recent update to the 3.1 firmware version of the iPhone OS, an issue that was already common with the device - the battery duration, has become even worse, but Apple seems to have been working in the past few days to find a solution to the problem.
The company has contacted many of the users that complained about the abnormal short battery duration in the American official forums, sending them a profile to be installed on their iPhone so the company can trace the usage of the device, together with this following questionnaire:
1. Do you have Mail auto-fetch enabled?
* If yes, what’s the frequency of checking?
* How many email accounts do you have set up?
2. Are you using Yahoo Push mail? Exchange ActiveSync? MobileMe Push? Google Calendar? CalDAV calendars? Subscribed calendars?
3. How many e-mails do you get pushed to your phone on an average day?
4. What would you say the total size of attachments is in that time period?
5. Do you have WiFi and/or Bluetooth enabled? About what percentage of the time are you connected to them?
6. When did this start happening? Any correlations to activity that you’ve noticed?
7. Does your Visual Voicemail work properly / is it set up?
8. Any alarms set?
9. What 3rd party apps do you have installed/use?
10. When you notice a power drop, does it seem to be a legitimate power drop, or rather an issue with the battery icon indicator?
11. What’s the device model? The questions are centered in many fields: used applications, push notifications, phone usage and so on. From the questionnaire, two things come to mind: one is the good interaction with users in order to try to solve an issue that has been bothering many of them. On the other hand, the questions also leave room to think that perhaps they’re still not even sure from where to start in order to actually solve the issue.
We’ll have to wait and see.
