    As it was to be expected, Apple released the first build for the Mac OS X 10.6.4 yesterday. The build is called 10F378, and it would bring enhancements to graphic drivers, SMB, Time Machine backup, USB and VoiceOver. The documentation also highlights an issue with the password in iChat.

    The Mac OS X 10.6.3 was released on March 29th, and it’s impossible to predict when the new update will be officially released.

    Still more to talk about the iPhone 4G found in a bar by one of Gizmodo’s employees. If the whole story is to be believed, then we have to ask how many of those prototypes are around. Jason Chen from Gizmodo actually wonders, in fact, how come others like this haven’t been spotted before.

    The answer is in the fact that Apple disguises the prototypes rather well. There are probably more of these around, being tested by Apple employees, but they can’t be recognized. One of the blurry points on the story was how the iPhone 4G was disguised. The prototype was wrapped in a black plastic cover, adapted to the phone in order not to catch too much attention. The prototype looked like a standard iPhone, with a scratched cover. Once the cover is removed, the plastic pieces covering the on/off, volume and mute buttons come off.

    The solution seems rather smart, since the cover looks like one for the old iPhone. Also, the iPhone covers are generally smooth, like this one, and hence one will not pay attention to the fact that the size isn’t quite like the 3GS. The video above shows the process of uncovering the disguised iPhone 4G.

    An iPhone 3GS was lost in a Redwood City bar, in California. No big deal, yes? No, as the iPhone seemed to be a prototype of the iPhone 4G according to Gizmodo. Once the cover that disguised this smartphone as an iPhone 3GS was removed, the first technical details started to appear. And if this was indeed an iPhone 4G, it would mean many surprises, pre-announcing a completely different iPhone from its predecessors.

    The video above made by Gizmodo shows a little of what we’re talking about. A frontal photocamera, a better “main” photocamera with flash, a display with a better definition, a second microphone, a slightly different design.

    Then today, two more news: it seems the iPhone belonged to Gray Powell, an Apple engineer who is in charge of the testing the iPhone’s telephony area. Which would explain why the device was disguised. And now, not only that, but apparently Gizmodo has received an official letter from Apple, asking Jason Chen, the person who found the iPhone, to return it as soon as possible. Thing that he apparently has been trying to do until now with no success. But now it seems all sorted, in any case.

    In the meantime… we’ll have to wait for Apple to release some official information on the matter.

    The pictures that we (luckily) chose not to publish in our last post were indeed a fake. The author of the fake is a French designer, codenamed Jpog, who declared to have used the 3D Studio Max in order to make the concept. The picture was then saved on Photoshop CS4 in order to add a noise effect to them.

    In order to clear up the fact the images were a fake, Jpog has offered the screenshot we’re showing above. Hoping this one isn’t a fake too… the best is, in any case, to wait for official information from Apple.

    Mac Rumors have received a series of pictures that are claimed to belong to the iPhone 4G, which is said to be launched on June 22nd. The unibody aluminium case is very similar to the iPad and it shows the same openings that are now present on the iPhone 3GS. We’re considering these a rumor for now, as there’s no way to know whether those are real or not.

    In any case, a similar solution for the next iPhone could be real, also because back in the day, the unibody design for the iPad turned out to be true. However, if the next iPhone’s case will be made in aluminium, we can expect a small plastic part not to disturb the radio waves.

    Apple could have already scheduled the official date for the presentation of the new iPhone. The rumors say that the company has chosen June 22nd as the date to present it, at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. The date could coincide with the next WWDC.

    The WWDC was usually held at the Moscone Center West, included the keynote: that’s how it was last year. However, the scheduled events on the Moscone have changed in the last few months: an unknown event went from June 28th to June 23rd, then was cancelled. It doesn’t mean, however, that Apple hasn’t asked the Center to keep the dates secret.

    However, Apple has only used the Yerba Buena Center for small events, such as the iPad launch. Publically, the company has promised to launch the iPhone 4.0 during summer, and during the last three years, it has used the WWDC for the iPhone’s official presentation. We’ll have to see.

    Apple presented the new MacBook Pro models yesterday. The laptops hadn’t been through an update since last June. All the models now have 4 GB RAM and core frequencies that go from 2.4 GHz to 2.66 Ghz, and except for the 13″ entry-level model, the new MacBook Pros allow the user to choose from different display types on the BTO option.

    It’s possible to choose from several display types: for the MacBook Pro 15″ there are the Glossy Widescreen Display, Hi-Res Glossy Widescreen Display and Hi-Res Antiglare Widescreen display options; for the 17″ MacBook Pro, there’s one less option, leaving only the Hi-Res Antiglare Widescreen Display and the standard display.

    The 13″ models still feature Core 2 Duo, while the 15″ and 17″ models have now the Core i5 and Core i7 processors. The most powerful of the models (15″ and 17″) will feature the NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M with Optimus technology. The smaller one (13″) features nVIDIA GeForce 320M.

    The battery is one of the strong points on the new models: 10 hours lifetime for the 13″ model, and 8 to 9 hours for the others. The prices start from €1140 for the 13″ model, up to €2249 for the 17″.

    The Apple Stores worldwide were offline for many hours this morning, and much speculation came from it. Would it be because of the pre-order of iPads to the rest of the world? Or perhaps for the highly-awaited new MacBook Pro models?

    In fact, a few hours ago the Apple Stores were put back online, and showed exactly the latter: the new MacBook Pro models, with the Core i5 and Core i7 processors. It was about time.

    So last evening’s event was indeed about the iPhone OS 4.0 During the keynote, Steve Jobs has said that the amount of new features was too big to be mentioned in detail, and hence why the presentation was focused in seven main enhancements only. We’ll bring the other interesting new features on the new iPhone OS 4.0, together with a link to the entire streaming, which can be found here.

    Here’s the list of more interesting features that weren’t mentioned during last evening’s event:

    - Playlist Creation: from now on, like on the iPad, it’ll be possible to create playlists directly from the iPod app;
    - Creating events in Mail: thanks to the automatic date recognition, it’s possible to create an event directly from Mail;
    - Gift Applications: now also available on the Apple mobile devices:
    - Braille support: a new feature that allows the user to connect a third-party device for Braille reading
    - Customizable fonts: It’ll be possible to alter the size of fonts on the email, SMS and local and Push notices;
    - Folders in Dock: the app collection folders can be dragged to the new Dock, making it similar to the Stacks from Snow Leopard;
    - Folders: inside each Folder, users will be able to reorganize the icons as they wish
    - Live suggestions in Safari: while making a research, Safari will now offer some suggestions like in the Desktop version
    - Emails organized by Thread: Steve Jobs mentioned when talking about the unified inbox on Mail, in fact.

    The rest can be seen on the streaming, directly from Apple’s Official Website.

    Apple has sent a few invitations for an event that will be held tomorrow, April 8th, during which it’s likely that the new iPhone OS 4.0 will be presented. Amongst the many new “promised” features, there’s the multitasking support, which is perhaps one of the most desired ones. Other new features could be an iPad-styled springboard, for example, and a bigger integration between the devices.

    Apple has already declared that the current iPads will receive a free update to the iPhone OS 4.0, while the 5.x versions will be available for purchase. It’s likely that the iPhone OS 4.0 will be launched officially together with the iPhone 4G, which makes it possible that tomorrow’s presentation will feature some new information about the next generation of iPhones.

    We’ll have to wait and see!
