IDG World Expo, responsible for organizing the MacWorld Expo, has announced that the 2010 event is going to be postponed from January to February, exactly from February 9th to 13th.

The decision was done based on the exhibitors’ requests, but also to avoid an overlap with the CES from Las Vegas, another technology expo that will be held exactly in January.

Apple has communicated that the 2009 was the last time the company would show up at a MacWorld Expo. The reasoning behind it was that the event was no longer adequate to the company’s needs, since they can achieve the same amount of success with their own Special Events and the Apple Stores throughout the country.

According to BoyGeniusReport, internal sources at AT&T would have confrmed the launch of the new iPhone model. The succesor to the iPhone 3G should be first announced in mid June, confirming the “tradition” of one new phone from Apple every year.

The new smartphone seems to have been defined “faster than the previous” and with brand new features that were never found on any other models (the reference doesn’t seem to apply only to the OS). Also, it seems Apple has decided to please users by offering some of the most requested features.

The UMTS connection should be brought up to 7.2Mbps and AT&T should offer new applications to allow users to fully experience the services.

We’ll have to see if all those rumors are true. We’ll stay tuned!

After the first images already found on the net, the guys from Engadget now have put together a video that shows the main new features on the new iPhone OS 3.0.

The video shows the use of images inside the messages and the landscape mode. It also shows the voice notes and Spotlight, the copy/paste feature and the cancelling through the “shaking” of the device, which is possible both on the copy/paste and the normal typing.

It’s noticeable however that the new firmware seems a little slow and has a few bugs, which can obviously be justified by the fact that it’s not a final version, but it seems promising so far.

The main new features on the iPhone 3.0 will be the following:

    • Peer-to-peer connectivity: thanks to the new APIs, the system is capable of finding other devices that use the same application through the Bonjour technology (via bluetooth) and it’s possible to create a connection through IP, in order to play the same game, for example
    • Developers will have the possibility to create applications that interact directly with the hardware
    • Special APIs will allow users to insert Google’s maps in the applications
    • Background replacement to enhance the battery duration and performance, also, sound and text warnings will be available

Also to be highlighted is the new business model that Apple will provide through its App Store: The new update will allow developers to create applications featuring “in-app purchase”, which means the possibility of selling extra contents inside each application, such as gaming levels, new maps and so on.

The iPhone OS 3.0 was made available in beta for developers yesterday, while for the normal users it will be available from this summer as a free update for the iPhone 3G owners and for $9.95 for the iPod Touch owners.
